Sunset High School’s annual John Pelham Memorial Baseball Game honors two fallen Army soldiers and school alumni, John Pelham and Andrew Keller. The event brings together students, families, veterans, and community members to remember their lives, sacrifices, and service to the country.
Throughout the ceremony and game, speakers reflect on the meaning of service, selflessness, and gratitude. John Pelham, a former baseball player at Sunset, was killed in Afghanistan shortly before he was due to return home. Andrew Keller, also a young soldier, was killed at age 22 while serving in Afghanistan. Their families speak about the lasting bond they share and what it means to see the community continue to honor their sons year after year.
Players, coaches, and parents describe the game as deeply emotional and bigger than baseball. They talk about humility, sacrifice, and the importance of teaching younger generations to appreciate the freedoms they have and the people who gave everything to protect them. The memorial game serves not only as a tribute, but also as a reminder that these stories should continue to be shared and remembered.
